My Experience as a Chiropractor and What I Have Learned

By Dr. John Reizer

Inman, SC – In December, 1986 I graduated from chiropractic college and shortly thereafter was licensed to practice as a chiropractic physician in the state of New Jersey. I can remember those early days of my professional career quite vividly as well as the frustration that constantly came along with being a member of a healthcare profession that was often looked down upon by traditional medical clinicians.

When I entered chiropractic college in the fall of 1983, I understood that the profession was a political fire-pit and frequently the very center of unwanted controversy. At the time however, I did not fully comprehend all the reasons the chiropractic profession had been under attack for so many years.

My education from that point forward would become twofold; one part dedicated to teaching me the art, science and philosophy of an incredible healthcare discipline and the other designed to teach me all the reasons chiropractic was constantly being placed in the cross hairs of a professional shooting squad administered by the medical profession and operated by its behind the scenes handler, the pharmaceutical industry.

I can recall the very first time a light bulb went off in my head and I made the all important discovery that something was definitely afoul within the healthcare industry. I remember sitting in a general physiology course, learning about various biological pathways that were present in the body and thinking, medical professionals cannot be this misinformed about health and wellness.

I was regularly reading in physiology textbooks how the body operated, and yet the medical profession had thousands of procedures designed to interrupt and interfere with almost every normal body function. Why? The answer to my question was quite simple – Big Pharma!

It did not take me too long in my college years to realize that chiropractic principles and its philosophical perspective were in direct opposition to the medical paradigm of managing sickness indefinitely. Medicine was not interested in the health of the population. It was hellbent on never allowing a human being  the chance to have a proper expression of health. I now realized that big pharmaceutical companies were never going to commit to serious research that would lead to the eradication of a single disease process. There simply was no money in any specific cure but a huge cash cow existed for a profession that was willing to dedicate all its resources towards the indefinite management of a countless number of diseases.

And so this is what I have learned after 36 years of being a student and chiropractic healthcare practitioner; chiropractic works really well. It allows each patient the opportunity to experience the best individual expression of health possible.

It has been a most rewarding professional career for me because I have witnessed thousands of patients get healthy and stay healthy. There’s no amount of money in the world that I could have earned that would be as satisfying as watching a patient get healthy without being exposed to toxic drugs. CLICK HERE FOR A FULL EXPLANATION ABOUT THE SCIENCE OF CHIROPRACTIC

Conversely, I have also learned that pharmaceutical companies realized long ago that their wealth and future earnings were only able to come to fruition by selling the false allopathic paradigm that health can only be achieved by administering toxic vaccines and other synthetic drugs in an attempt to make the human body and its associated chemistry stronger. This does not work and it’s why we have so many more diseases today than ever before.

Getting Healthy Through Chiropractic

Dr. John Reizer

As a doctor of chiropractic, I have always felt an obligation to help educate patients, laypersons and anyone else that might have had a sincere desire to learn something about becoming healthier. This post has to do with the real life benefits associated with being under regular chiropractic care and how a better expression of human physiology and health can be realized by simply maintaining the integrity of the spine’s alignment.

My brother, Dr. Steven Reizer a successful chiropractor who practices in the Upstate of South Carolina, recently shared with me some pretty amazing results he achieved while working with a patient in his private practice.

The patient, a 14 year old male, entered his office complaining of neck pain and stiffness. Range of motion in the cervical spine had been diminished considerably. The boy reported the condition had been present for about eight months and had been getting progressively worse over time. After taking x-rays, Dr. Reizer discovered the young patient had a kyphosis in the cervical spine. This is a condition where the normal curve of the neck is reversed.

Upon careful examination of the radiographs (x-rays) it became apparent to Dr. Reizer that the cervical spinal bones in question were all well maintained and had not been fractured. Several of the bony segments in the region, however had been subluxated (slightly misaligned from each other) in a posterior direction. This situation had caused tremendous spasticity in many of the paraspinal muscles of the cervical spine. The spastic muscular activity along with the misaligned spinal segments caused a reversal of the normal cervical curve.

Chiropractic Care

The young patient was given a series of eight chiropractic adjustments over a six week period of time and then another set of cervical x-rays were taken to see if any changes might be noticeable. It should be noted that after the chiropractic adjustments were administered, the patient had normal range of motion and the pain and stiffness in his neck had abated.

Pre and Post X-Rays of Patient’s Cervical Spine

The first radiograph (taken before care commenced) pictured above on the left shows a very apparent kyphosis in the cervical spine. It’s possible to see in this view that the posterior arch of the Atlas vertebra (C1) has taken on the appearance of being pushed upward and into the occipital region of the skull. It’s also possible to see in this view that a number of cervical spinal segments have moved posterior in relationship to each other.

The spinal adjustments administered were very specific in that they addressed posteriority of the segments involved as well as any rotational considerations that were present in the patient’s spine.

Looking at the second radiograph on the right (taken six weeks after care commenced), it’s interesting to note from a clinical perspective that any posteriority associated with the mid and lower cervical segments as well as the extreme inferior tilting of the Atlas (C1) vertebra appear to have been corrected. It’s equally interesting to note that the kyphosis present earlier was replaced with an almost normal looking lordotic cervical curve. Keep in mind that these dramatic changes were made with only eight spinal adjustments.

It’s easy to see on a set of x-rays how the cervical spine can become adversely affected by vertebral subluxations. What is not visible, however is the amount of nerve damage that this problem can cause in the human body. Many spinal nerves can and do become negatively affected with the loss of proper spinal alignment and this can cause a loss of health and physiological expression in a person.

There is not a surgical procedure in existence nor a pharmaceutical product on the market that can correct a vertebral subluxation. Only a chiropractic adjustment can correct this problem. Vertebral subluxations occur at some point in most people and that is why it’s imperative that every person should take the time to have his or her spine checked by a qualified chiropractor each year.

A Chiropractic Conspiracy?

For many years I have suffered from chronic low back and sciatica leg pain. In my job I travel extensively and sit in airline seats for many hours at a time. In July, 2015 I visited a chiropractor because I was in a lot of pain.

The doctor I visited had a really small office, seemed knowledgeable about his profession, and I could tell that he wanted to help me. As it turned out, this was one of the best decisions I’d ever made. It’s been a year since I started chiropractic care and my back pain is long gone. And I have noticed other improvements in my health and I attribute these improvements to regular care at my chiropractor’s office.

I have learned a lot about chiropractic this past year and also about the attempts by mainstream medicine to discredit this natural healing art. There is a lot more to chiropractic care than just treating back pain. Most people have no idea what chiropractic really is and they’re not going to find out the truth about chiropractic through the mainstream media.

Understanding Traditional Chiropractic Theory

The human brain sends and receives electrical messages to and from all parts of your body. It is essential that these messages arrive at specific locations, inside of you, throughout your entire life in order for you to remain healthy. The messages travel inside the spinal cord and spinal nerves.

The nervous system is like a giant telephone communication network. It transmits electrical messages that directly affect organs, tissues and cells in the body and it can also trigger the release of chemical messages that allow other modes of communication to take place within our physiology. Whether it’s electrical or chemical communications, the nervous system is behind the transmission of these messages and your body cannot be healthy if the nervous system is not functioning properly.

The spinal cord is very well protected by the spinal bones and the brain is protected by the skull. Spinal bones (vertebrae) are moveable structures and they allow us a great deal of flexibility when we are moving about.

Because the spinal bones sit on top of one another, they form a long canal of bones where the spinal cord runs through. The spinal nerves that exit off the spinal cord pass between openings that are made on the sides of the spinal bones. Sometimes spinal bones become misaligned from each other and this causes them to place a slight amount of pressure on the spinal nerves (vertebral subluxations). When this happens, the messages that are being transmitted through the nervous system become distorted and this causes problems to occur in the body’s physiology.

Traditional chiropractors will nudge the misaligned spinal bones back into their proper anatomical positions by making gentle, manual (by hand) adjustments. This is not done to treat specific conditions of sickness or disease, but rather to correct the misaligned (subluxated) spinal bones. The spinal adjustments help to remove nerve interference and this ultimately allows health to be restored in the body naturally. Many conditions of sickness are then reversed by the body’s own inborn recuperative abilities.

HOW SERIOUS IS A VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION?

One of the most difficult concepts to get across to people is the devastating effects of a vertebral subluxation. I could show you all kinds of diseases and say that subluxations cause those diseases, but that would not be quite honest. That would be like saying that being a “couch potato” and not exercising regularly causes heart disease. Undoubtedly those are factors, but there are other factors also. No one can possibly say what is the major factor or cause. In addition, I do not want to focus on negatives such as individual diseases.

I believe it is important to be proactive and to discuss the importance of getting your spine checked and adjusted on a regular basis in order to maintain your body and thus allowing you to reach your true potential in every aspect of your life. Unfortunately, some people are only motivated by fear; the fear of getting sick, or dying from some horrible disease. So for those people, let’s take a minute to talk about how bad this thing called a vertebral subluxation really is.

When you have a subluxation in your spine your brain messages are interfered with and your body does not receive all of its proper instructions. Your digestive system will not work at its potential. Your body cannot produce the exact quantity and quality of chemicals necessary to digest your food. Your food will not be absorbed into your body as it should because your cells involved with absorption are not working as they should. Your food cannot be broken down properly. Your organs, tissues and cells involved with changing absorbed food into flesh and blood will not work properly. When you are subluxated, your immune system is not working as it should. Your organs and cells responsible for your resistance to viruses and bacteria are working less than their potential. When you are subluxated you cannot think as well, your coordination is lessened, and your energy levels are diminished. A vertebral subluxation literally affects every part of your body, because every part of your body is directly dependent upon receiving instructions from your brain through your nerve system!

Your subluxation affects every part of your body!!! In this day and age when there are so many stresses upon your body (physical, chemical, and mental) you cannot afford to have an improperly functioning nerve system! You cannot be sure about the quality of the water that you drink, or the air that you breathe. You cannot be sure that your body is getting all of the nutrients that it needs from the food that you eat. You cannot help being exposed to microorganisms, many of which are more powerful than ever because of their ability to adapt to our attempts to destroy them. You can do nothing about the genetic weaknesses that you may have inherited. But by keeping your nerve system free of vertebral subluxations, you can be sure that any potential challenges you may be facing will be handled by your body more efficiently.

Remember that Chiropractic Is Not About Your Back, It’s About Your Life!
