In 1975, at twelve years old, I went through a fantastic sports experience that changed my life in many ways. Three months later, I began writing about that incredible summer of baseball. My essays would eventually become my first published book in 1978, during my freshman year of high school.

In 2019, at the request of some people in my hometown of Lakewood, NJ, I republished the story that was out of print and made it available on Amazon.

John Reizer, right after the final game
This post does not address the worldwide nefarious activities currently in play. Still, this experience began my writing career and gave me the confidence to write and speak my mind about the topics I discuss in the present on NoFakeNews.

Hey Roark,
I wouldn’t even pay the NYT to read my own article! 😂
John
I think it could be a great story/movie, Roark. I don’t know if I have the strength to go back on life support in a hospital again for over three months, though. 😂 If I were to write a novel like that and get someone to make it a movie, gee, it could piss a lot of people off again. I have been there and done that already!
Regarding the NYT article, I would get in trouble if I republished one of their articles on NoFakeNews. It’s a copyright thing.
John
John,
I failed to mention that the New York Times was wanting me to sign up and or pay to read the rest of your 1975 coverage.
I was thinking perhaps you can include the full article in another post someday. Unless that gets you in trouble, but it shouldn’t. Right? LOL
I think that’s an excellent idea for another beekeeper movie only this time involving a vaccine! Funny proposed name for the movie as well. 🙂
Roark
Thank you, Ashley! 🙂
I appreciate your feedback and taking the time to read my story. I know that so much of what we must write about is predicated on negative content, so I thought it appropriate to share with our readers an event that affected me positively in my early life.
John
I loved this story, John.
“Once in a Lifetime” should be required reading for every kid in school. Not only does the story itself inspire; so, too, does the fact that a 12-year-old was able to have the depth of feeling you did, and confidence to put pen to paper, understanding, at that tender age, the deep importance of that moment in time.
This shows, so clearly, the foundation of who we know you to be was being laid at that time: the excellent, always-seeking student and the teacher wanting to educate others about the importance of what he’s learned.
Great stuff!
Ashley
Happy Valentine’s Day, Lisa and the same goes for everyone on our platform. 👍🙂
John
Happy Valentine’s Day, John and to everyone!
❤🌻🌺🌹❤
And, Haha! Roark, some things are a mystery! But I should add, we have never met! And there are others in our lives.
Maybe we have just known one another for a very long time! 🤣
Lisa
Hahaha! I would not say I like the New York Times or any other MSM disinformation outlets. The story about me and our team is the only NYT piece I can honestly verify as not being fake news! 😂
Happy Valentine’s Day to you as well!
By the way, I saw the Beekeeper movie yesterday. I loved it!
I could visualize another version of that story where the film’s beginning features the grandmother or mother suffering a vaccine injury and the beekeeper going after several targeted corporations of a different industry.
I might name the new screenplay The Naturopath! 😂
John
Hi John,
How did you get Lisa to love you so much? Just kidding. 😆
Full disclosure:
I cannot stand the New York Times. They are partly responsible for the hell we have to pay to get our country back. If we get it back.
Anyway, that is an exciting story about an exciting time for a young man like you!
(“You’re still a young man…” Tower of Power)
Happy Valentine’s day, (regardless of any truth about the holiday)!
Roark
p.s. Thanks for sharing with us!
Yes, very true! We all get to where we are going in life through various paths.
John
I can relate to the shy, introverted part of your statement, John. I was also extremely shy myself for a great deal part of my life. Although, no one experience helped to bring me out of my shell as it did you.
It was just years of being pushed to the limit that cracked my shell! It took a long time.
But the important part is that we all grow. No matter how we get there! 🙂👍
Lisa
Thanks, Lisa! Sometimes, 1975 seems like yesterday to me, and at other times, it feels like another lifetime.
That experience changed my life in so many ways. I used to be a shy, introverted kid, terrified of speaking in public. Boy, that changed after the summer of 75. 😂
Thanks for the feedback, as always! 👍
John
John, I read your book “Once in a Lifetime” quite some time ago. And I love your story. Your enthusiasm for the game, and for life itself shines throughout the pages. So much to be proud of at that time for you! 👍
Also, I enjoyed reading the post from The New York Times just now. Especially the part about your mother being brought to tears by your initiative to write your story. So much pride and love that she had in her heart for you! ❤
And, yes, writing down your thoughts and feelings is very therapeutic and healing for the soul.
Also, some of the last statements in your terrific book had really stood out to me:
“We must realize that we should never be content with where we are in life. We must always strive to be better than we currently are.”
“Maybe you might say I am dreaming, but no one can tell me that dreams don’t come true.”
And those statements have rung true for you right up until this day. With the making of the “Target List” movie being a perfect example.
It’s incredible to think that this great knowledge came from an adolescent young man. And such a cutie one as well. And it just keeps on going! 🙂
Lisa
