    John,
    Can you or anyone else explain one thing for me? This has mystified me for lots of years and I was always hesitant to ask the question out of fear of being ridiculed. Why is it that if a person hovers above the ground in a hot air balloon the ground beneath her doesn’t move? I mean if the earth is spinning 1000 miles per hour, why does the ground stay in place when the balloon is off the ground? It makes no sense to me, but there must be a scientific explanation. Any ideas? 😎

      Hello Anonymous!

      I believe that the scientific community would tell us the principle of inertia comes into play. Supposedly, the air and atmosphere around us move together with the earth’s surface at the same speed of 1000 miles per hour. Because everything is moving at the same speed, we keep up with the ground beneath us while in a hovering hot air balloon.

    If you ask scientists why the oceans and seas don’t fall off the ball earth, they will reply, “GRAVITY.”

    If you ask scientists why people and buildings don’t fall off the ball earth, they will reply, “GRAVITY.”

    If you ask scientists what is gravity, they’ll reply, “We really don’t know what gravity is.”

    Smells like bull $%it to me.
