Are you planning a romantic trip to Italy?

By John Reizer

Are you planning a romantic getaway to Italy? Did you know there’s a travel advisory for Americans traveling to this European destination?

Truth be told, a level 2 travel advisory for Italy has been in effect since May 23, 2025, but it was recently updated to warn Americans to be extra vigilant when traveling there.

“The U.S. Department of State has updated its travel advisory warning for Italy. Although the threat level remains at two, the information associated with the warning has changed.”

Can anyone think of a logical reason why Americans would suddenly be more at risk from terrorists in Italy and why the travel advisory needed to be updated by the government?

Isn’t it a sad day when traveling to somewhere like Italy becomes less of a romantic adventure and more of an exercise in testing one’s survival skills?

I don’t know about you, but I like thinking of Italy as the former (a romantic destination) versus the latter (a terrorist hotspot). What about you?

About the Book

Nathan Wells is an architect from Boston, Massachusetts, who prefers schedules and carefully thought-out decisions. So, when transportation delays cause him to miss his flight home from Rome, he sees it as little more than an inconvenient nuisance.

Stephanie Bentley couldn’t be more different. A high school English teacher from Seattle, Washington, she misses a different flight back to the States because she simply lost track of time within a small Italian bookstore. Optimistic, spontaneous, and endlessly curious, she’s exactly the kind of person Nathan would never expect to cross paths with.

With no flights available for five days, both unexpectedly find themselves staying at the same small hotel in the heart of Rome.

A shared breakfast leads to a morning walk, and the morning turns into an afternoon. Soon they’re walking through hidden streets, discovering neighborhood cafés, getting lost on purpose, and sharing the kinds of conversations that make time seem to disappear.

As the days and hours pass, a friendship forms and grows into something quite unexpected. Via heartfelt laughter, genuine conversations, and surprising adventures, while overlooking the city, Nathan and Stephanie begin to realize that the most significant emotional bonds often develop when life suddenly deviates from the route you planned.

But their extra time in Rome is coming to an end. Soon, flights home, distant cities, and separate lives begin drawing closer, and both must face the question they’ve been avoiding: What happens after this?

Set against the classic backdrop of Rome, Italy, Somewhere Between Rome and Home is a gentle, uplifting contemporary romance about chance encounters and the remarkable possibilities hidden inside life’s unforeseen detours.

Sometimes the flight you miss turns out to be the journey you were meant to take.

Our Latest Movie Journalist’s Review

“Target List is done with great attention to cinematic details and climactic maturation of the plot. The topic is timely. The dialogue is good and fits the characters. The action scenes are minimalistic but contextually relevant and come with a feel of action usually seen in TV movies.”
