From Stephanie Bentley to Nathan Wells:
I checked the calendar. There’s a weekend next month when neither of us has to grade papers, meet a client, or pretend the distance thing isn’t a big deal.
I’m not saying you should book anything; I just found a flight. AA-2354
From Nathan:
I’m looking at it now.
From Stephanie:
And?
From Nathan:
I’m trying not to overthink it.
From Stephanie:
How’s that going for you?
From Nathan:
I’m definitely overthinking it. Do you think I should book it?
From Stephanie:
Yes!
From Nathan:
Okay, I’m booking it now!
Text message
Stephanie:
Sorry I missed your call. My day got away from me.
Nathan:
It happens.
Stephanie:
I know. I just hate how a whole day can happen between us before we get to talk.
Nathan:
Then tell me about it now. Start anywhere.
Stephanie:
Anywhere?
Nathan:
Anywhere. I’m listening.
Stephanie:
Okay. I saw a dog in a yellow raincoat, my students made me laugh, and I wished you were here for all of it.
Nathan:
I wish I had been there, too. For the dog, especially.
Text message
Nathan:
Boston to Seattle is a long way to go for breakfast.
Stephanie:
Unless the company’s good.
Nathan:
I’m checking flights yet again.
Stephanie:
I thought you couldn’t miss work this week.
Nathan:
I’m learning that some things are worth rearranging the schedule for.
