Yes, Lisa, it appears that people of all ages can become consumed by these technologies. We regularly see grown people addicted to video games and alternative reality worlds.
I think we are already living in a 3-D holographic simulation, and now people are obsessed with interacting with other simulation constructs and, of course, AI chatbots and personalities.
As I have written before, when does AI become more of a hindrance to humanity than an asset?

How tragic, John! That AI can appear so realistic and life-like about what it projects that it greatly influences people. And that naive, impressionable youngsters are can become vulnerable to this type of mind control. Although I am sure that adults can be taken in by it as well.
I hope this boy’s mother and family is successful in going after these technological predators. But I really don’t believe it’s going to stop them. However, at least someone is making a statement about how dangerous AI can become.
Although there are some people that make comments about AI, such as, what you put into it is what you are going to get back. That you have to use discernment and ask questions to it.
They say if you put something dark into it, then you will get something dark back. Or if you put something positive into it, you will get back something positive. Like a mirror!
But we all have our bad days. So, it would seem that at some point, it would catch us off guard.
Although apparently this boy’s life started to revolve around his make-believe world with his chatbox. And then was encouraged to live out his dark side or fantasy until the point of death!
And I don’t have any experience about these things myself, but it appears as though AI can make you believe that you are really a part of that fantasy!
