Thanks to Sonia Maida for sending me this photo she captured at the Ocean County Mall in Toms River, New Jersey.
In 1975, I experienced an incredible baseball summer with thirteen other boys from Lakewood, New Jersey, forever changing our lives.
I wrote about our incredible story in 1977, and “Once In A Lifetime” was published during my first year in High School.
“The story of the 1975 Little League World’s Championship is told by one of its participants, young John Reizer. It’s the complete story of how the Lakewood, New Jersey All-Star team was picked, how they became a finely-honed playing unit, and how they went on to win fifteen straight games, the fifteenth, the biggest win of all, at the Little League World Series.”
Once In A Lifetime went out of print in 1984 and except for a few personal copies I have in a safe place, the book was pretty much unavailable to purchase or read.
Most people wouldn’t be interested in this small book except for some sports enthusiasts in the Jersey Shore community.
A few years back, I republished the book and put it back in print at the request of some friends and family members. It’s a special publication to me because this was my first attempt at writing a manuscript.

That summer was an incredible experience; I remember it like it happened last week. To have been fortunate enough to have gone through all that with my family, friends, and our entire community is something unique that’s hard to put into words. But at fifteen, I tried to do my best writing the story.

Also, I read ‘Once In a Lifetime’ several years ago, and what an inspirational book it is. All things to be very proud of in your youth.
