Hurricane Milton, a category 5 hurricane is barreling toward Florida. Floridians are under a mandatory evacuation order because the storm has been assessed as being unsurvivable by authorities.

My family and I just experienced Hurricane Helene on September 27th. By the time Helene had reached the Upstate of South Carolina, it had been downgraded to a tropical storm with sustained winds of 60 miles per hour and gusts of over 80 miles per hour.

Honestly, Helene scared me a lot. I was fearful for the safety of my family. I can’t even begin to imagine, nor would I want to, what a category 5 hurricane would be like.

John Reizer is a retired chiropractor and author. Born in Lakewood, New Jersey, in 1963, he resides in Inman, South Carolina.
