I might have created a monster 👻

Dr. John Reizer

This is one of those light-hearted posts I sometimes throw into the mix that focuses on something less intense than what I often write about.

Many evenings my wife and I enjoy watching movies. It’s pretty much the only television we watch because we don’t subscribe to any mainstream media platforms and never watch network television entertainment shows.

My wife and I have lived with three cats and a dog for a while. Two of the cats are ours, the other kitten and the dog are my daughter’s and her husband’s. Those two kids just got married. They’re not kids, but many people in their early twenties look like kids to me.

While we’re watching movies, this crazy dog  (my daughter’s) begs me for popcorn. I have created a monster by throwing the dog a few pieces every night. I know it’s my fault, but I feel sorry for the dog and always give her some popcorn. I bonded with this dog since she arrived about three years ago. Her name is Moose.

Anyway, my daughter is always telling me not to give her dog popcorn and I have been pleading my case and saying that I don’t give Moose any more popcorn.

When I tell you that I try to sneak into the kitchen and quietly open the pantry to retrieve the popcorn without this crazy dog hearing me, I am not exaggerating. But I have never been successful in getting the snack without the dog hearing me. As soon as I get into my recliner in front of the television, Moose appears from out of nowhere looking for the popcorn. 😂

Last week, my daughter and her husband moved into their new apartment and took the kitten and Moose.

Well, I think my story and claim that I hadn’t been giving the dog any popcorn in the evenings got destroyed.

The second night the newlyweds were in their new home, they watched a movie and made some fresh popcorn, and this is what happened!

Yes, indeed it is, and proud we are. 🙂

    Thanks, John! 🙂

And, yes, the transition is an adjustment. But also, yes, it’s wonderful to watch your kids grow and flourish, and come into their own. And you can be proud!

Thanks for sharing, Lisa! Sorry to hear about your tooth – ouch! Feel better soon! 🙂

Yes, we are officially empty nesters, and getting used to that will take some time. It’s tough going through all these transitions in life, and having your only child move out isn’t easy for her parents, but at the same time, it’s exciting to see her become an independent young woman. It’s the cycle of life, and it happens to all of us

Yep, you surely have created a monster, John! Haha! 😆 And you’ve been caught!

Moose’s eyes are looking directly at that bowl of popcorn. 🍿👀

But congratulations to the newlyweds. And that will be a change in the household for you and your wife.

Our daughter is in her twenties as well, and has her own apartment in Madison where she works. But she comes home every weekend to see her boyfriend, and their friends. And, yes, she makes some time for us as well.

Also, I get to tag along to the movies at the theater with the couple sometimes. I always offer to pay. 😂

But one of my favorite things at the theater is the popcorn with all their cheese sprinkles. I load it on!

However, I won’t be able to eat popcorn at all for awhile. I have a cracked tooth that had a tooth infection in the root. I just got a root canal this past week. And I will get the crown for it in a few weeks. Fun stuff! 🤣

But then I will be able to eat popcorn again. 😀

Also, I agree with you that young people in their twenties always look like kids.

But, John, our children will always be kids to their us, no matter how old they get. My husband still tends to call our daughter, baby girl!

    Lisa
